These nominations are professionally researched and prepared thanks to funding approved at town meeting a few years ago. Built circa 1850, the only one room school house owned by the town and still in unaltered condition since it closed in 1951. We hope to restore this school on the inside to reflect the memories of the last class . This school will remain a museum and reflect a different period of time than the one room schoolhouse owned by the North Attleborough Historical Society which local third graders visit for a day. We also hope to add the Holmes Schoolhouse to their tour when the restoration is complete. With generous private donations we have awarded the bid for the restoration of windows and exterior doors. Restoration of the Holmes Memorial HallBuilt circa 1889 , adjacent to the Holmes Schoolhouse. This building served as a meeting hall for west side of town, for social, religious and educational events. A recent Eagle Scout project to paint the exterior of the building has enhanced the building and protected the old clapboards. Funding for a new roof was appropriated at town meeting in 2004 and installed in 2005. We hope to allow the use of the building for public and private meetings and functions. Preservation AwardsTo acknowledge and recognize the preservation efforts of individuals and groups that promote historic preservation. We accept nominations from the general public so feel free to contact us if you see something in process or completed that we may consider. |
