Stormwater

The North Attleborough Department of Public Works operates the Town's stormwater drainage system under a Phase II General Stormwater Permit issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Stormwater Permitting program. The Phase II NPDES Stormwater Permit is part of a federally mandated program to address water pollution from stormwater under the Clean Water Act. The Phase II Stormwater Management Program page provides more information on this program and the Town's permit.

History
When it rains, water runs downhill and away from hard surfaces. Some water is evaporated, some is absorbed by the ground, and some runs off streets, lawns, rooftops, and parking lots where it picks up pesticides, fertilizers, sediments, oil and other pollutants. The further rainwater travels, the more pollutants it picks up. Every drop of rain that you keep on your property helps to keep our streams and ponds (and drinking water!) less polluted.
