The North Attleboro Board of Public Works (BPW), announces that the BPW is looking forward to a very active construction season in 2002. Mr. Cabral, Chairman of the BPW notes that there will be several million dollars worth of projects taking place in North Attleborough on roads, bridges, and sidewalks as well as the drainage, water and sewer systems. Highlights of the 2002 season include:
A number of roads will be resurfaced or reconstructed throughout the town using State Funding. These include: Metcalf Rd (from S. Washington St. to Anawan Rd.) - Pine Rd. – Hillside Rd. – Hunting Rd. – Old Post Rd. (from Arthur Collins Circle to Rt.1) along with portions of Reservoir Rd and High St.
Portions of sidewalks in poor condition will be repaired. These areas are located throughout the Town and repair work will begin during the summer months.
The bridge on Route 152
over I-95 has been under reconstruction by the State since 2000. One side of the bridge has been demolished
and is currently being replaced and is expected to be completed by July
2002. After this is completed, the
other side will be demolished and work begun to replace it. MassHighway estimates the entire bridge will
be completed in fall of 2003.
Pavement
crack sealing and micro-resurfacing work will also be performed on various
streets through out the Town of North Attleborough during the summer and fall
months.
Other Streets scheduled for resurfacing will include those roads in the Lindsey Acres Subdivision area that recently under went sanitary sewer installation. These streets include: McKeon Dr. – Bob Circle – Jonas Circle – Jimmy Circle – Hoyle Dr. – Debora Rd. – Maryann Way. – Cranberry Rd. – Laurie Ln. – Lisa Dr. – Jean Dr. – Lois Ln. and portions of other streets in the immediate area.
Probably the most significant
resurfacing job scheduled for this year will be conducted
by the State Highway Department. MassHighway
has contracted with Aggregate Industries to “mill” the existing route surface
and place new asphalt on Route 1 from Plainville to Attleborough. The North
Attleboro portion is tentatively scheduled for this June and is expected to be
complete by this fall.
P.J. Hayes Construction Company will begin the construction of the Lake Como Sanitary Sewer project. This project will bring sewers to the Lake Como section of Town. This project will begin in May and is expected to be completed by the fall.
The Department’s new television camera truck will be working in several areas of town imaging the Town sewer system. This work will identify problem areas within the sewer system and assist in prioritizing future maintenance projects and sewer pipe replacement work.
The Town water system’s two main storage tanks will be cleaned and painted this summer and fall. The Old Wood South tank will be taken out of service in May/June and the High Street tank will be taken out of service in September/October. The tanks will be sandblasted inside and outside, repaired and then repainted.
The Board of Public Works recognizes that there may be traffic delays and inconveniences associated with some of these important projects and appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during the construction season.
Motorists are asked to be especially alert and drive carefully throughout construction zones. Due to the nature of these projects, drivers should expect some traffic delays and one-lane traffic in the areas under construction.
Construction updates will be offered throughout the summer and fall months and can be obtained via the local municipal cable assess channel, local newspapers or by contacting the Department of Public Works.
Questions or comments related to these upcoming infrastructure improvements can be addressed to the Public Works Department at (508) 695-9621.
