RESIDENTS OF NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH

HYDRANT FLUSHING

The North Attleborough Public Works Water Division will begin flushing fire hydrants Monday, April 9, 2012 and will continue for approximately ten weeks (Monday–Thursday). Flushing will take place from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and is is dependent on weather conditions.

Flushing will begin in the Whiting Street section and continue south to Eddy Street and from Broad Street east to Route 1.

This maintenance activity is being performed to maintain water quality throughout the system.

Minor discoloration of water may result in the areas where flushing operations are occurring. Residents should refrain from doing laundry if discoloration of the water is observed. If you experience discoloration, run your cold water until the water clears. This may take several minutes.  If the discoloration does not clear, please contact the Water Division.  While flushing operations are occurring, there may be pressure fluctuations in the adjacent neighborhood.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our residents. Should you have any questions, please call the Water Division at 508-695-7790.

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH WASTEWATER

TREATMENT FACILITY

NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS REMOVAL UPGRADE

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

OCTOBER 6, 2011

Project Construction Cost:

$21,920,000

Project Funding:

State Revolving Fund Loan & Town of North Attleborough and Town of Plainville Appropriations

Engineer:

Tighe & Bond, Inc., Westfield, MA

Contractor:

Carlin Contracting Co., Inc., Waterford, CT

Project Components and Benefits to the Ten Mile River and Narragansett Bay:

The North Attleborough Wastewater Treatment Facility treats wastewater from the Towns of North Attleborough and Plainville. The average daily design flow rate for the facility is 4.61 million gallons per day.

The upgrade project includes three major components:

1.

Nitrogen Removal

Nitrogen will be removed biologically through an advanced 5 stage Bardenpho system that will be capable of reducing the effluent total nitrogen concentration of less than 5 milligrams per liter (projected future limit). The system includes installation of energy-efficient high-speed turbo blowers for aerating the wastewater.

2.

Phosphorous Removal

Phosphorous will be removed biologically through the 5 stage Bardenpho system and chemically through addition of a metal salt coagulant and solids removal with a cloth-media filtration system. This will be the first wastewater treatment plant in the United States designed to achieve a total phosphorus permit limit of 0.1 milligrams per liter using the cloth-media filtration technology.

3.

Other Upgrades

Various systems will be upgraded, including pumping and electrical systems to accommodate the new equipment and to replace aging infrastructure.

The Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal Upgrade Project is in the final phase of an Administrative Order implementation plan from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency to reduce nitrogen and phosphorous loading from the North Attleborough Wastewater Treatment Facility to the Ten Mile River and Narragansett Bay.

We had a spectacular day for our annual Touch-The-Trucks event! More than 500 people attended the annual event and were able to explore more than 25 pieces of equipment in celebration of National Public Works Week.

The children enjoyed having the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat and discover what the world of DPW, Fire, Police, Construction, Trash/Recycling, Electric, Recreation and Postal trucks are like. The staff was most welcoming and patient explaining details of the trucks and allowing excited parents and children to safely climb aboard. They were able to see, touch, interact with and learn about special vehicles and big trucks and their functions.

We would like to extend a big thanks to the DPW, Fire, Police, Parks and Recreation, Landfill, North Attleborough Electric, Case Companies, Achins, Morse Sand and Gravel, Waste Management and United Postal Service for bringing their sparkling clean trucks, cruisers, fire engines, ambulance, mail truck, specialized equipment and more.

We are also so very grateful to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly on a beautiful day to make sure everything ran smoothly. We hope you enjoyed the fourth annual Touch The Trucks event and look forward to hearing about your experience and how we can make it even better and bigger for next Spring.

Our most heartfelt thanks to all!!!!!!!!
